Tech Man International LLC was established in 1982 upon the sale of American Optical (a subsidiary of Warner Lambert Company now owned by Pfizer) where its founder, Dr. M. Mahmud Awan, was employed as Group Manager of Corporate Planning Operations. In its initial years, the Company relied on the sale of optical products to worldwide customers of Warner Lambert and American Optical.

The Company commenced its Research & Development operations in Charlton, Massachusetts in 1983 and set up production facilities in East Brookfield, Massachusetts in 1984. It is credited with the development and marketing of first successful wireless local area network in 1985 when it received multiple licenses from U.S. Government Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

With customers such as Pitney Bowes and Radio Data Systems Corporation, the Company built a reputation for innovative wireless products. Unlike other narrowly focused optical companies, Tech Man continues to offer integrated optical networking solutions that involve RF/Satellite and wireless platforms. Based on the organization’s long collaboration with GTE Government Systems Corporation, L3 Communications - Satellite Transmission Systems (STS), and Raytheon the company installed several telecom and defense networks. The Company also served as exclusive distributor for OFS Fitel (SpecTran) during this period and sold optical fiber to customers throughout North America including Los Alamos Laboratories and other Federal Government agencies.

The Company was an early investor in FiberCore Ltd., a NASDAQ company involved in the manufacturing of optical preforms and specialty fibers and its managing partner served as a Director of FiberCore. During the nineties, the Company built a fiber cable manufacturing plant in Oman with its managing partner serving as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors.  The company also built a fiber cable manufacturing plant in the United States.

The Company bought the Applied Fiberoptics line of business in 1997 along with associated patents from Optim, Inc., a Massachusetts manufacturer of medical fiber optics.  The company purchased additional patents involving illumination fiber from Optim, Inc. in 1999 thus receiving UL, CSA, and CE certifications for its product portfolio.

Tech Man International LLC has been a major investor in Technical Communications Corporation (TCC), a NASDAQ company that specializes in encryption products with its managing partner serving as the Chairman of the Board from 1998 to 2001.  The company’s structure was changed from a corporation to a limited liability company in 2008.
