The colposcope utilizes a binocular system of lenses and fiber optic light, improving the accuracy of the diagnosis by facilitating an detailed examination of the cervix.  Areas of abnormality can then be easily identified providing the physician an early detection of cervical pre-cancer if there has been a suspicious smear test.
